Error Message "xxxxxxxx has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Any time I try to start one of my videogames or even the windows media player I get this error message "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienence." I have no idea what causes this problem. It sounds like a software issue and not a hardware issue but I cant tell for sure.

Open ADM.,event viewer,for more info on system events.L.clic
event viewer,copy,move this file,move to my documents,will ge
you a shrtcut for quicker info in event viewer.Games require mor
memory than just running xp,256mb is questionable,512mb is adequate.
