ERROR MESSAGE WITH OUTLOOK

I have installed XP+SP2 and Office 2000 professional. When I send an email I
get the following error message:
'Unable to logon to the server using Distributed Password Authentication.
Server response ERR popgate unknown command (Account mail.btinternet.com,
POP3 Server mail.btinternet.com Error Number 0x800ccc18)
How can I correct this?
