Error message when trying to open Excel

I haven't used Excel for awhile and when I tried today it went to a small
Windows Installer screen and then tried to configure and then to a screen
that says Installation Error and says it couldn't find a certain file. It
tells me to insert my disc, which I do, but then gives me another Error
Message and a differnt file that can't be loctaed. Of course, it never does
find that one and I can't run Excel.

Why would Excel act this way when I've worked with it in the past and it is
obviously installed already? does anyone know how to fix this without losing
all my files?

Just re-run setup from the start. This will not lose any of your files, it
should just repair the installation. If this fails, un-install and
re-install, again the files will be fine

Exactly the same thing happened to me, although I use Excel all the time.
However, there is a twist...when the installer hits the same endpoint that
Scotty describes below, I am then able to click on an Excel shortcut button,
and it opens normally - as do Excel files. It is as if the installer is just
a decoy. But why this dance??

However, I don't understand the instructions for the fix. How do I "re-run
setup from the start". The start of what? The Start button does not appear
to lead to setup re-run option. Or are you referring to the original program
disks, which I am not sure that I have. Thanks---
