error message when sending

My outbox is empty, yet when snd/rcv is running it's trying to send
something and fails.

This is the message:

Task 'XXXX - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC65) : 'Your outgoing
(SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to
receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP). The server responded: 503 valid RCPT command
must precede DATA'

I know the SMTP protocol, and if I understand this message correctly,
it's trying to send a piece of garbage hanging there, which is probably
a start of message before the DATA part.

How do I clean that?

I did SCANPST and cleanfreebusy but in vain.

The next thing is to copy all messages/rules to a new PST file, but I
want to avoid that.
(Ths current PST size is 0.5G and it's office 2003)
