Error message when sending an email

When trying to send an email, I keep getting a response stating, "Task
'mail.bigpond.com - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation
timed out waiting for a response from the ending (SMTP) server. If you
continue to receive this message, contct your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).' Could someone please advise me what this
means and what I need to do to fix this problem?

Hi Floss76 ... Can you try this and see if it will work ... Open outlook
express ... click tools >>> accounts >>> Mail tab >>> properties >>>server
tab >>> and add a check mark on >>> My server requires authentication >>>
click apply and then close everything ... Try sendind a email now

I am VERY new at posting anything anywhere, so bear with me.
I WAS having this problem and had not been able to figure it out.
Went to knowledge bases at different sites, and really don't remember how I
came across this discussion, but I am really glad I did. Your suggestion
worked, and I didn't have to edit my registry, as was suggested by Tech
Support ( PC manufacturer).
