Error message when logging on to XP/Home...

In XP/Home edition, when logging off one id and on to
another, the error message 'Failed to update system
registry. Please try using regedit.' pops up as.
Hitting OK allows completion of startup with no apparent
ill effects. Does anyone know what this message is for
and how to eliminate it. Thanks for any suggestions.
