error message Ox800ccc92 log in

My Microsoft Outlook has been working fine with Vista Home Premium but for
the last two days it keeps coming up with this irritating pop-up message
saying my log-in has been rejected by my email server and it says there is
an invalid mailbox directory. I can still access my email and the Internet
but the messages just won't go away? If I click OK they go away temporarily
but they just keep coming back. Help! What is going on?????

Error message just means invalid userid/password to access the e-mail
server. Have you tried re-entering your POP3/IMAP account details? The
other thing to watch for is security software (e.g. antivirus/antispam) that
scans e-mail as it is downloaded/sent. These programs act as a middle man
between Outlook and the e-mail server and if they wig, could cause
connection issues. Usually a simple uninstall/reinstall of the security
product will resolve.

Hi Patty. Not sure where you are in the world but I am in Edinburgh UK and
use Tiscali as my ISP. I use MS Outlook 2003 to suck email (pop email) from
my webmail. I have been getting similar for a couple of days - a dialogue
window appearing asking for username and password. I cancel that and have to
press Send & Receive from the main Outlook Inbox page. This currently works
about 66% of the time - the rest of the time it asks for password.

Looking at the Forum pages for my ISP lots of others are receiving the same
and on other webmail to outlook examples for different ISPs, again the same.

I get the strong feeling this is to do with a recent MS Update that seems to
be throwing settings out.

I am going to attempt to recover my PC to a week ago and see if this changes
anything - but to let you know, you are not alone. Maybe the whole world is
suffering!

Cheers
Donald

Know what you mean but I'm not using invalid userid/password. The messages
just popped up apropos of nothing! Could try re-entering details. Use AVG
free but that has never caused any problems before now? Am inclined to think
it might be something to do with Microsoft Update as other message suggests.
I have wasted hours on this and am very put out. I mean everything is
working OK but can't get rid of messages.

Thank god - someone else has the same problem and also just for the last
couple of days which does sound meaningful. I'm 300 miles to the south of
Edinburgh (geography is not my strong point). Slightly cheering to know I am
not alone. That wretched message has come up twice when I've been writing
this.

Forgot to say I'm with Tiscali too!

OK Patty. If you are with Tiscali then there is a strong possibility that it
may be a fault with them. This is definately not your PC; your settings; or
your AVG Virus thingy. It is always so annoying when these things happen and
you always think the fault lies at your own end!

I am going to do a PC recovery to an earlier date - before the past 3 or 4
days - which will remove totally the latest MS Updates. I will see what
happens after that. If it doesn't happen then it will point to an MS Update
issue; If it still happens then it will point to a Tiscali error.

I had a major issue with email and Tiscali at the start of the year and lost
many messages. I was able to prove conclusively that it was a fault with
Tiscali yet they continued to tell others it was not their issue.

I will report back.

Signing off from (sunny) Edinburgh

Post the exact and complete error message. State your Outlook version and
account type (POP, IMAP, etc.)
