When the Conficker virus came out I think it affected my email. Now, every
time I get email into my Outlook window, there is a little icon next to each
email that is a picture of a phone, and the error message reads "item cannot
be viewed in the reading pane, make to download message from server" It's a
real pain! I've gone through every help topic and can't find why this is
happening or how to fix it. Once I click on "mark to download from server'
then I have to hit 'send and receive' button again to get the messages to
download properly - HELP! I'm very annoyed. I am a savvy user.

Savvy users don't get the Conficker worm! <eg>

What Outlook window are you viewing where you get the phone icon? It is not
a part of Outlook. Do you have any third party programs installed that
integrate with Outlook like AV, firewall, anti-spam program, etc.?
