Error message on reinstall of Access 97

Ron Berlier

Unfortunately, I had some Win 95 system failures that
required me to format my hard disk and do a Win 95
reinstall. I have been wrestling with this for several
days now. I reinstalled all of my Office 95 products
(Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) with any problems.
However, when I tried to reinstall Access, towards the
end, I received the error message " The configuration of
the ODBC Microsoft dBase drive (*.dbf) driver failed." I
am at a loss as to how to proceed.

I did reinstall from my tape backup so there may be some
conflicts that are not readily apparent. I have search
for a file ODBC.dbf on my tape drive and can not locate
it. Should I try to uninstall the program and reinstall
or is there something more involved going on that I need
to consider.

All input greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your
assistance.

It sounds like there has been some sort of lock on your
ODBC settings. Check your ODBC settings (may be under
Data Sources in control panel) (specifically dBase) and
see if there is anything out of the ordinary. You might
want to check with a friend or at the office to compare
settings.
