Ever since I switched internet providers when I open up my windows mail I
receive the following error message: 'no connection to the internet is
currently available. work offline or try again' even though I am connected to
the internet using Internet Explorer. So I click on try again and then
windows mail connects & checks for & downloads new messages. Also once
connected it will not automatically check for new messages every 5 minutes as
I have selected, but instead I have to click on 'send 'n receive' each time.
Any suggestions to solve my two problems?
Thanks

Your mail account in Windows Mail is probably corrupted.
One way you can tell is if your computer 'hangs' when you go to
Tools, Accounts, select your mail account, Properties, Connection.
If not, what does it show for connection?
You must either leave that unselected (in which case WM will use whatever
connection IE uses), or else select the Local Area Network.

Also, under Tools, Options, Connection, the first box should be checked,
and the second box unchecked.

To fix a corrupted mail account, delete it, restart Windows Mail, then
recreate the account.

I went into my mail account, Properties, Connection, it showed an un-check
marked box and 'Local Area Network' in faded letters in the box beneath it. I
then check marked the small box & switched to 'Broadband Connection' in the
larger box, then I uncheck marked the smaller box, this in turn left the
words 'broadband connection' in the faded box and hit 'apply'. It appears to
be working fine now, I no longer receive the prompt to connect to the
internet and it automatically checks for new messages every 5 minutes. If it
gives me trouble again later on then I will delete it and re-install as you
suggested. Thank you very much for your help. I will be seeking more advice
from you as I seem to be having a few issues with my computer, internet,
iPod, etc.

Glad to hear that the problem seems to be resolved.
Regrettably we can only handle mail-related problems in this
particular forum.
