Error message - nav buttons

Richard

Hello - I hope someone can help.

I have found that I can no longer define navigation
buttons in shared borders. If I request them I get the
following error message:

An error occurred accessing your Frontpage web files.
Authors - if authoring against a web server, please
contact the webmaster for this servers site. Webmasters -
please see the servers system log for more details.

I found a log file, called Frontpg.log at top level on my
hard drive. The last few lines are:
21 Sep 2003 19:00:18 +0100: Received empty response from
Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions
21 Sep 2003 19:00:59 +0100: file:// - Error #80002
Message: System exception: access violation.
21 Sep 2003 19:00:59 +0100: (OS Error #-1073741819
Message: exception occurred at 0x67ee797e)
21 Sep 2003 19:00:59 +0100: Received empty response from
Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions

I am not using any features requireing FP Server
Extensions.

I am just running locally - not on a server. This used to
work OK but I don't know what I have done to cause this
problem. It happens on all my webs.

I have removed FP from my system - rebooted and re-
installed - still have the problem.

Any suggestions?

Regards

Richard

Have you tried the usual repairs
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins
4) Run a Repair / Reinstall on FP & IE
5) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, and MS Office

I've been getting the SYSTEM EXCEPTION - ACCESS VIOLATION
error when using the navigation components.

I've been using Menuplus add-on, and the Support seem to
think that its a problem with Frontpage 2002, but there is
NO fix for it.

==========================

MENUPLUS support:

Hello Ellis,

These are my findings so far. The testweb doesn't contain
any MenuPlus components and I have removed MenuPlus from
my system. So MenuPlus isn't playing a part in what
follows:

1. If I open the web with FrontPage 2000, I can open any
page successfully. The link bar on the left has the
references to the other pages (Home, About Us etc.). The
link bar on the Home page just says 'Home' without a
hyperlink.

2. If I open the web with FrontPage 2002, then try to open
any page I get a dialog box with "System Exception -
Access Violation", and I have to kill FrontPage (not
responding).

3. If I open the web with FrontPage 2003 Beta, I can again
open any page successfully. This time the link bar on the
left has the references to the other pages as before,
except for the Home page which says [Edit the properties
for this link bar to display hyperlinks here].

So my conclusion is that this is nothing to do with
MenuPlus (since it doesn't figure anywhere) but is a
problem with FrontPage 2002, and I have a very big hunch
that it's something to do with the link bars. I hope this
is of some help to you and that you'll be able to track
down the problem. I'll be interested to hear how you get
on. There may be something of use on the Microsoft
support web site.

Best regards,
Jeff.
