Error Message In Outlook 2003 when accessing Contacts

First, I deleted my old outlook.pst file because Outlook 2003 would no
longer load my Outlook Inbox. Specifically, this happens when loading a
webpage for an e-mail, i.e., advertising. When Outlook tries to open such an
e-mail, it goes into Not Responding Mode and locks up. Second, Outlook
created a new outlook.pst file and Outlook seems to work again. I'm
deleting webpage advertising to avoid lockup.

I had to import my contacts because they disappeared after I deleted my old
outlook.pst file. Importing worked and my contacts appear when I click on
the contacts folder, however, when I try to send an e-mail and click on TO:
to select a contact the following error message appears: "The address list
could not be displayed. The contacts folder associated with this address
list could not be opened, it may have been moved or deleted, or you may not
have permissision. For information on how to remove this folder from the
Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office Outlook help". Well, this
message doesn't really help me fix my problem. Any help on how to fix my
address book when addressing e-mail would be greatly appreciated.

And you didnt delete your pst, since if you did you would not have been able
to import your contacts - other than from a backup

I'm not skilled enough to know what files to delete. Plus, can I download a
newer version of Outlook from the web at no cost? My 2002 outlook came with
my new laptop. Can you give me a more step by step series of solutions if
there are any?
Thanks,

Jan

Russs, I configured my Outlook Address Book in accordance with the link you
provided. I had to play with it for a while. My Outlook account had for
some reason 6 address books listed all with the same name. No sure which one
I should pick, I deleted all of them and created a new one. The new one
works like a charm. Thanks very much for your help. I had notions of
giving up on Outlook. Your help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. Is there a way to set my MSN inbox as my default inbox when starting
Outlook, or does it always delault to my Local Folder inbox.

I did delete my outlook.pst file. Fortunately, I had made a backup of my
contacts several weeks ago. I imported my backup contacts to the new
outlook.pst file. That's when I experienced my address book problem.

I don't understand your question. Who said anything about deleting files?
The article provides as clear instructions on how to configure the Outlook
Address Book as anyone else could. If there is something there you don't
understand, ask that question specifically.

Indeed. Importing Contacts will always demolish your Outlook Address Book
Service. That's one of the many reasons we post here every day: Do not
import Outlook data. Ever.

I've never used hotmail with Outlook. (Not sure I ever would). You should be
able to figure out if you can startup in your MSN Inbox by looking at Tools
Options > Other > Advanced Email Options > Startup in this Folder >
Browse. If it doesn't appear there, then the answer is no. It would not
surprise me if the answer if no anyway.
