Error Message: Device name is already in use

Why do I always get this message? I have three computers hooked up together,
and I have two of them mapped with a certain letter to what I use as a
server. It always says that the device name is already in use, and the only
way I've been able to fix it is by remapping the drive. But there has got to
be an easier way. If anyone knows, please tell me what to do. Thanks.

This is a common error that often does not mean what it says. What it
usually really means is, "I tried to connect to the shared drive/resource
but I cannot; I'm not sure why, most likely it's off or not available." Is
the 'server' always on before the clients are?
