Error message: "Can't run 16-bit program

Guest

Whenever I log in to my personal settings, I receive the error message: "Insufficient memory to run this application. quit one or more Windows applications and then try again". There is no reference to a specific application, nor does the error message have any id number or something similar. I have to always click "ok" and then I can continue.

Does anybody know how to get rid of this error message?

Go to Start>Run type: msconfig select Startup and see if there's
an entry that you can uncheck.

Thanks very much, but how do I know which entries are essential for Windows to start pproperly and which ones I can uncheck?

*None* are essential for Windows to start properly. The only
question should be which of these do you find valuable to you.
For example, clearly you don't want to stop your anti-virus
program from running.

However, this is not reason you are getting an insufficient
memory message. Have you limited your page file size in some way?
Put a small maximum on it? Put it on a drive or partition with
little free space?

Jochen, Ken is right. You can rt click on MyComputer>Select
Properties>Advanced>Performance-Settings>Advanced
Virtual Memory-Change. Click on Custom Size type: 600 in each box and
select Set Ok.

You say I'm right, but I would never give advice like that.

How much the minimum should be depends on how much RAM he has.
The less RAM he has the higher the minimum should be. 600MB is
considerably higher than most people need. And the maximum should
always be set very large to enable it to grow as needed. They
should not be the same.
