Error Message: Cannot delete "filename"

I have a large file that a roomate downloaded that I've
been trying to get rid of for a long time. I have tried
everything. It says that the file is being used by
another person or program, but there are no programs
running that would be using an .AVI file. I have even
tried to change my startup so that nothing is running,
and it still shows up as being used by something. How on
earth can I get rid of it? Is there a way to override
Windows in this instance? DOS was so much easier.

Hi,
I've had the same problem with various files.
The only way that I've found to get rid of them is to
download secure deletion software, like BCWipe from
download.com, and this usually works. Its worked for me
with just one random pass, but you could try more if only
one doesn't work. And remember to make sure you ONLY
select the file you want rid of, not an entire folder,
unless you want rid of that too.
Anyway, I hope this works.

Hi,

Open Windows Media Player, remove that file from the playlist. Close WMP,
then you should be able to delete the file.
