Error mesage always appearing on start up

I have Windows XP Professional. Upon start up on the desktop before entering
any program I always get the error message... Cannot find
C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd32.exe.... What does this mean and how can I
correct what appears to be some kind of deficiency in my system... Thanks
