Error installing service pack 1

I have an xp machine with no service packs applied which is having major
problems. When I try to install service pack 1 for windows xp i get the
error "installation failed, check to make sure the cryptographic service is
running". When I check the service, it is running. I have stopped and
restarted this service but the installation still fails. When I try to
install service pack 2, I just get an error "file not found" and cannot get
service pack 2 installed either. I am trying to install both service packs
from cd, the machine is having internet explorer problems and the windows
update web site will not work. Any help?

I don't know what the problem is, but don't bother with SP1, it's part of
SP2. You only need to install SP2.

Thank you Mike, but I already have service pack 2 full version downloaded and
saved onto cd...this is how I am trying to install and this is where I am
getting the error file not found. I still need help on this.
