Error in MS Word 2007

I keep getting an error message that says "Microsoft Office has encountered a
problem and needs to close" when I try to open a Word attachment from an
email. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

It is happening only with that one attachment, or with all? If just that
one, perhaps the attachment is corrupted. Does Word still crash if you save
the attachment to your hard drive before trying to open it (this is the
recommended way to work with attachments in any case)?

If Word crashes with all attachments, the usual causes of such crashes are:

1. Misbehaving add-in.

2. Corrupted Normal.dotm.

3. Corrupted registry entry (usually the Data key), which is located here in
Word 2007:


HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word
