Error in Home Networking Wizard

I am running on Windows XP Home (both on my host and guest computers) and I'm trying to network two computers together using a D-Link 700AP on the host and a D-Link 810+ on the guest. They communicate fine and I am able to share my internet connection and use it from both computers but file and printer sharing don't work. My host computer can't open my workgroup and when I use the Home Networking Wizard it finishes with an error. My guest computer can see my host in the workgroup but can't open it or add places to the network from it. My host computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 and my guest is a Compaq 7000US.

Thanks,

Brandon

Greetings brandon_r87,

What errors do you receive? Here are some tips that should help get
everything working. Make sure the XP's firewall is disabled on local area
networks. It is intended for direct connections to the Internet only. If you
installed a third party firewall like ZoneAlarm, Sygate, Norton Firewall,
make sure it is properly configured and that it isn't blocking access
between the machines. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all
computers.

I haven't really received any errors except that it can't connect to the workgroup or that it can't find network places when I try to add them. I have the Windows XP firewall disabled on all computers. I have Sygate Personal Firewall installed on both computers. I am able to use the internet but I can't share files or printers so I'm not sure if I have Sygate set up correctly. In the options menu I went to the Network Neighborhood Tab and checkmarked the box beside "Allow to browse Network Neighborhood files and printer(s)" and "Allow others to share my files and printer(s)" but it hasn't solved the problem yet. I've gone through the Local Area Connection in Network Connections and enabled NetBios on both computers. Sygate has NetBios protection on and I'm not sure if I need to take that off

Thank

Brandon

Make sure you have Sygate properly configured. I'm sorry but I don't use
Sygate so I cannot provide any details on how to configure it. The only
solution I have is to completely uninstall the software and see if you are
still having problems while troubleshooting. Sometimes disabling doesn't
always work.
