Error in Business Contact Manager

when starting up outlook receiving error "there was a problem connecting to
the database engine. to try again, please check retry. If the problem
persists check help. I checked cancel, then receive "business contact
manager cannot load all of your data".
I tried to add a new user in business contact manager user group. used my
name as the user, but didn't solve the problem.... can you help?

The SQL Server may not be running. Have you restarted your computer? If you
have and it hasn't resolved it, check your services in your administrator
tools under the control panel. Look to see if MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ is
running.

How do I know? I went into control panel, administration tools, then there
are several choices....

I did find it and it is set to "automatic" I started the program and it gave
me the message that it started and stopped. some programs are set up to stop
when there is nothing for it to do...
Also, I did try to do a windows restore point and it would not restore....
I am wondering if my norton update caused this trouble.

It shouldn't be in a stopped state. That means it is not running. The status
should read started for it to be working. If it doesn't stay stared then it
isn't running. As a result, Outlook will not be able to use the services so
it fails.

If you set it to automatic and reboot it should start. If it isn't then
something is preventing that service from starting. I would start with
Virus/Spyware rules.

Can you be more specific with what is the exact full name of the service you
attempted to start?

It is difficult to diagnose errors without getting as much detail as
possible from you when you mention "I clicked this".

Norton causes a lot of problems. :) Again, what is the full name and release
version of your Norton product? If it has a firewall component, turn it off.
Windows restore can also cause problems, so please don't try to use it when
trying to fix a BCM-specific problem.

Reading some of your other suggestions for this problem, I see where you say
Firewalls can create a problem. Are we expected to leave our systems
vulnerable in order to use BCM then? We currently use AVG & AntiVir along
with Spybot. We removed Nortom completely from our system and are still
having a problem keeping the SQL Server running & the database available
even though we are NOT accessing the database from networked computers (the
database is on the computer we are using for BCM). I feel we are almost
there, but still have issues. Thank you for your very helpful information.
