My computer does not work. When I turn it on, I get a screen that prompts me
to chose between Starting Windows Normally, starting windows in Sofe Mode,
etc. No matter which I choose, I am told that there is a corrupt file:
C/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM

I am instructed to boot from original Windows XP CD and choose 'r' to
repair. I do just that. I get to the screen and select 'r' to repair. I
then choose my only Windows installation on my computer (1) and press ENTER.
All is going well until, I get a Blue Screen.
I get Error Message *** STOP: 0x00000051 (0x00000001, 0xE112D548,
0x00843000, 0x000001D5).
It says there is a problem with newly installed software or hardware that
should be removed. Of course I hadnt installed any new hardware or software
recently so I am lost. I try unplugging some hardware (such as the webcam)
but that doesnt seem to work. The Support Section on microsoft.com does have
a helpful article on the issue, but I cannot abide because of that techincal
error I receive.

PLEASE HELP!

Type the letter 1 only,not (1)
Also,if it still doesnt let you in recovery, boot to xp cd,select install
xp,repair
this copy, you only loose updates, all else stays intact.

I do only type 1, not (1) and whether I chose to repair an old Windows
installation, or install a new one, I get the same technical error.

If the drive is formatted fat32 then you may be able to replace the hive
files from a win98 startup disk. If NTFS then you may need to move the disk
to another machine or possibly from a parallel install.
