After the latest updates as of april 4, from Microsoft I get an error during
user login. It says:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RTHDCPL.EXE Illegal system DLL relocation.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not
run proberly. The relocation occured because the DLL
C:\windows\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for windows
system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

All components mentioned in the message is from microsoft, but I do not find
any place to report such error to Microsoft.

Any suggestions? Thank You.

I am also getting this message since the latest update. This is the third
time in the past 6 months that an update has caused problems. I really hope
someone at Microsoft start to recognize this problem and future updates do a
better job. I am getting very frustrated with the many problems coming out
of Microsft these days.

There does not appear to be a "fix" listed in Microsofts "knowledge" bank.
Similar problems were caused by updating the user32.dll to a new version
which is not recognized by something else in the registry. In this case the
HHCTRL.OCX. That will need to be updated to the "latest" version to work
with the .dll. Where to get this latest version, I have know clue. And
since you cannot talk to anyone at Microsoft without paying big bucks, I
guess we will have to wait for a technical bulletin or another wonderful
update.

Odd, as the "fix" that I have posted on numerous threads is definitely listed
in Microsoft's "knowledge" bank:

The Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start, and you receive an error
message when you start the computer: "Illegal System DLL Relocation"

Just wondering... anyone with some *technical and factual* info about
this one (I know about the fix of the fix, just want to understand
what happened) ?

Hi AlexT,

The "what happened" is explained in the Cause section of MSKB article #935448

Thanks

Most interesting that something like this is not revealed by QA...
Anyway :)

Looks to me to be an intermitant timing issue issue caused by the listed
software.
