Error connecting to email account

On my PC, Windows Mail can no longer send/receive emails. I have imported an
account from another PC, on which email is working. So it is not the account
settings that are wrong.

The error message I receive is:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.btinternet.com',
Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Can anyone offer some guidance?

Thanks

You only supplied a receive error message.

The account may be corrupt. Delete it, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate the account from scratch. If that does not fix the
problem, your antivirus may be interfering. Which antivirus are
you running?

The account works fine using Windows Mail from another PC.

I'm running Norton 360, which incidentally is also on the other PC

Thanks

Most versions of the Norton antivirus programs cause assorted
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately. So do
most versions of the McAfee antivirus programs. A recent
version of the Trend antivirus program also causes assorted
problems in Windows Mail. It doesn't help much to disable
these programs; you have to uninstall them instead to stop them
from creating new problems. After uninstalling the Norton
programs, you often need to run this cleanup program to handle
what the uninstall left behind:

You may even need to remove your email account under
Windows Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account
again. Depending on what part of BT you're in, you need to use
one of these sets of instructions:

Even though these instructions were written for Outlook Express,
they should also work under Windows Mail as long as they don't
call for the HTTP protocol.

Your old computer is picking up the signal first I just had the same problem
and had to take the old off the server

You mean delayed the problem. Norton keeps on occasionally creating
new problems in Windows Mail, although it sometimes takes months
to see them again.

Check if these instructions help:

They were written for Outlook Express, but should also work under
Windows Mail.

Go to Tools, Accounts, select the btinternet account, Properties,
Servers, make sure "Log on using Secure Password Authentication"
is not checked.

If that was not the issue, which antivirus are you running?
