Error Code at Welcome Screen

I recently upgraded from 98SE to WinXP Pro. After
installation completed, the system booted up to the
welcome screen and after entering my password and
pressing enter, I received the following error code: A
Error Code: ox80070002. I attempted to reset the default
security by going into the registry at
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\CRYPTOGRAPHY\PROVID
ERS AND
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20
\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\CRYPTOGRAPHY\PROVIDERS. However, my
system does not show Providers in the path. Of course I
had to do this via Safe Mode. Does anyone know of
another way I can fix this problem so that I can logon to
my computer. Any and all responses are appreciated

Hi!marcel!
This is the right method and you perhaps have followed this one.

Start the computer. Press the F8 key during startup to start the
computer in Safe mode.
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Delete the following keys in the Windows registry:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers

Quit Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.

Now coming to other options:-
you may correct this either using recovery console or just a repair install.
