Error Code 7 during Win2000 Installation

E

Eric L. Bucey

I'm trying to install Win2000 Professional on a donated
workstation that formerly ran Win98. The computer meets
all minimum system requirements for Win200. When I boot
from the 2000 disc, setup begins and after it analyzes my
hardware configuaration, I see the following message:

Can not load file i386/ntkrnlmp.exe
Error Code is 7.

Setup then aborts. To what problem does error code 7 point?
Thank you.

Just guessing but during setup at the message (before you
get to the blue screen) that says "setup is detecting your
hardware config..." hit F5 then later it will let you
specify a standard PC or other type of machine. I would
try standard first then others if they seem applicable.
