Error Code 1706

Jim Powell

Hi, I encountered this problem Error Code 1706. No valid source could be
found for the product scan. The windows Installer cannot continue.
The only thing I did was that I removed Mcafee and installed a new Firewall
& Anti virus Suite. I did download the tool from Mcafee to clean up, but I
still have the same problem. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

Hello Jim,

As always, you should make sure that you have got a working system restore
point, before you run any test, download or install a new game, application,
or software update, you make changes to your computer
-

First clear up your Temp File/Cache, Reboot and try again. Best and easier
to use CCleaner

D/L and Install, CCleaner and Dial-a-Fix
-

This needs to be run in safe mode.

http://www.ccleaner.com
Note, uncheck Yahoos Toolbar

Download the basic version via http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp
The basic version does not contain the disgusted Toolbar

In the Utilities category, uncheck Windows Defender. Having this checked
removes the history of when the last scan was run.

NOTE - The first time you run CCleaner's Issues scanner you'll have to keep
running it back-to-back until it finds nothing. One scenario is a registry
key may only be a reference pointing to a completely different location in
the registry and when it's removed then that reference link is also noticed
as being invalid on a subsequent scan. It's generally a good idea to keep
running the Issues scan until nothing is listed.

Tip: Mr.G recommend using the default checked boxes and running Advanced
maybe once a month or so

It is fine to have things ticked in SYSTEM, but it would not be advisable to
tick anything in Advanced unless you are sure what you are doing.

Go ahead and download Dial-ª-Fix.

<http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix> (Download near bottom)

Click the green checkmark and click Go.

After it has finished, Reboot

Try Windows Update
<http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/>
and see if you can get your updates installed.
