Up until recently, I had no problems receiving or sending emails through
Windows Mail. Now I get the following error messages:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Re:
message!', Account: 'imap.aim.com', Server: 'smtp.aim.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Sender address rejected:
Access denied', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number:
0x800CCC78

I've checked all the settings and they appear correct, ie: my server
requires authentication, this box is checked. My email address hasn't
changed so I'm not sure what's wrong. I have no problem receiving emails.
Please help! Thanks!

AOL is very restrictive as to what you can use for your 'From'
email address. It must be @aol.com or @aim.com.

Since when? I've had a Netscape email for over 15 years, which merged with
aim in the past 5 or 6 years. They allowed us to still use "Netscape.net" as
long as we used aim as the incoming and outgoing servers in Outlook or
Windows Mail. Is this something new?????

Sorry, I wasn't aware that AOL had acquired Netscape.
However, the error message clearly indicates that the aim.com server is
rejecting your @netscape.net email address.

Try this: Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.

It's already enabled. Still doesn't work. Any other ideas?

554 5.7.1 error indicates that your ISP has blocked it because of Spam Control.
Contact your ISP for further information and possible resolution for your issue

The only other suggestion I have it to contact AOL since their mail server
is blocking you.

In the meantime, you will have to do any sending via webmail.

Thanks for that report. Where exactly are you making the change from
netscape.net to aim.com? On the Servers tab or the General tab?

Appears AOL has finally fixed the problem after 4 or 5 days. Outgoing emails
are sending now, under Netscape email address. They must have updated
something and forgot about the Netscape users. All is well again...
