Error code 0x 8001106ba on start up - PLEASE HELP!

Hello all, I am running windows xp and over the past few days i get the
following error message at start-up
"0x8001106ba. A problem caused Windows Defender service to stop. To start
the service, restart your computer or search help and support on how to start
the service manually"

I have tried restarting and this does not work. When I look at the control
panel it says that Windows defender is on - but I still get the same error
message.

Any ideas? Do I need to update it or uninstall and reinstall?

Thanks in advance.

I'm feeling like the alone stranger here. I get the same error codes as
others with this complaint, specifically 0X80071b90 and 0x800106BA on my home
computer running XP pro. I understand the WD license expire issue. The box
for WD remains on the the task bar but it is only a white, empty, box.
Windows Defender does not show up in the add/remove programs box. I see the
WD listing in "Services" running (shown as disabled) and else where. I tried
to get the new version and install over the old but that didn't work either.
So, how do I remove WD beta, to install the good version?

Try rebooting in SAfe Mode and run the uninstall package:

C:\Windows\Installer\aba642.msi

assuming Beta 2.
