Occasionally while the system boots an error message
appears. This occurs before the Desktop is visible. The
error message appears on what I describe as a blue DOS
screen. The message is:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Run driver verifier against any new (or suspect)
drivers. If that doesn't reveal the corrupting driver,
try enabling special pool. Both of these features are
intended to catch corruption at an earlier point where
the offending driver can be identified.
If you need to use Safe Mode to remove disabled
components, restart the computer, Press F8 to select
Advanced Startup Options, and select Safe Mode.
Technical Information:
*** Stop: 0x000000C5(0x00000004, 0x00000002, 0x00000001,
0x8054B534)
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This problem has been present for 3 or 4 months, and I do
not recall installing any new hardware or drivers. I
have checked the Device Manager and all the devices seem
to working properly.
Dell technical support has been called several times.
They have never told me how to run driver verifier or how
to enable special pool. The first time they suggested
that I run MSCONFIG and disable all the startup items. I
rebooted the system 10 times and did not encounter the
error. I then added back the MacAfee antivirus items and
rebooted the system an additional 10 time without
encountering an error. However within a day the error
returned. During the next Dell call I was advised to
make some registry changes (I don't recall what they
were) and uninstall MacAfee. I could not find the
MacAfee CD, but in the Dell Recovery CD I did find and
install Norton Antivirus. It has been several days since
this change was made and the error still occurs at what
appears to be the same intermittent frequency.
Any clues on how to run driver verifier and/or enable
special pool to identify the problem would be most
welcome.
