When one user tries to open a database, they get error
3197, which MS says means a corrupt database. BUT, others
can use it fine,
How long has this been happening? Has the affected user been reporting this
error for days, while other users report opening the database day after day
with no problem, or is this problem something that started today? If it
just started happening today, then the affected user is probably the canary
in the coal mine, and as the other users quit the application and try to
open it later, they too will get the error.
If this is the case, I would have all users stop making any transactions
(data writes) in the database, then copy the database file as a backup, then
have all but one user quit the application. That one user can then do a
compact and repair. If successful, then the other users can try opening the
database, including the "canary."
Even it this isn't the case, I would make the copy and then compact and
repair, just to be on the safe side.
ALSO- the database has some linked tables, does compact
and repair do anything to them?
Using the menu's "Compact and Repair" option will compact the current
database file, not linked tables, which are located in another database.
