Error 1722/Windows Installer

I run a Windows XP, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 system.

I need to download a program for work. However, every time I get 3/4 through
the process, I receive an error that says: Problem with Windows Installer
package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.

I have updated my Windows Installer and have rebooted several times. I still
get the same message.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My thanks in advance.

What version of Windows XP? Home, Pro ??

What is the make and model of your computer?

What is the application you're trying to install? Is the application
known to be compatible with your version of Windows, and your hardware?
Do you need to use a later or earlier version for compatibility?

Can you first download the application to be installed and then install
afterwards?

Does the application require any prerequisites? Hardware or software wise?

Do you have any antimalware applications running that need to be
terminated before the specific application can be installed?

Have you checked your system's event logs for more detailed information
after the attempted install?

Have you Googled for solutions?

Is the application supported from an Internet web site or forum?
