Error 1706

I am using windows xp professional and office 2000. When
I install office 2000 I do a custom install and check run
all from my computer so that I shouldn't need the cd. My
problem is that when I try to add a graph or a chart into
an application like powerpoint it tries to install
something and is looking for the cd. In this case I can't
always put the cd in for it to run and it returns an error
1706 saying it can't find the location of the data1.msi
file. I am confused because I did a complete install and
it shouldn't be installing on first use.

Dave,

Dunno, but a couple of questions. Do you have the ability to log in as an
Administrator to install? That may help. Also, the msi file is definitely an
install file. I wonder if there is something wrong with the media and it is
not installing properly?

I did install office as local administrator and did a full
install. The problem is that for every person that logs
into that computer it wants to run an install when
inserting charts or graphs. Since this is a school I
can't have the install disks available to everyone thats
why I did the full install so they shouldn't need the
disks.

It might be worth uninstalling, then copying the contents of the install CDs
to the hard drive, then re-installing from those.
That way it will be able to find the "CD" on its own when it goes looking.

Not a perfect solution, but it'll probably get you going while we wait for
somebody with a better idea to come along.
