when i turn on my old thinkpad windows xp the following happens, message in
upper left corner states:
130,000kb ok
161 163
then screen changes to a large box which says error 00161 00163 with a
choice of OK or Cancel with a bird outside the box whch can be moved into the
box with the mouse. clicking displays a large screen with dates and times
which can be changed, but changing them to correct date/time and then
clicking ok leads to another screen with a box that says only off on
alternately flashing but with no way to choose. only way to remove this is
with on/off switch, then same thing over again.

This isn't an XP OS issue. You should post to a hardware newsgroup or
contact the tech support for your computer.

Hello,

Google 'error 00161 00163 00173'

Looks like you should change your CMOS battery for starters,
especially since you say "my old thinkpad".

Presuming you weren't to know if this was a Windows problem or not.

Regards
