ERROR: 16 bit MS-Dos Subsystem???

I turned on the computer this morning and can't get into several programs.
The following keeps popping up:
C:\WINDOWS\system 32\command.com
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

How do I fix this? I have Windows XP.

Start>Run and type in this without the quotes:
"cmd /c copy /y %windir%\repair\autoexec.nt %windir%\system32"
