thanks in advance for your assisstance; i hope this is the right place to be
posting this.
i had to reformat my machine. i was running winXP Pro but am now running
winME. i backedup/saved to cd all my docs. the docs were created with MS
Office 2000 Professional. i then reformated to winME. installed MS Office
2000 Professional (the same one that was on with winXP Pro). when i try to
open a doc that i had saved on cd i get this error messege "Error 1402 Could
not open key: HKEY_Current_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common. Verify
that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support
personnel." i am the only one that uses this computer as a stand alone in my
home. after clicking "ok" on the error messege box (it comes up a couple of
times) the shell (i think that is what it is called) of word opens. i can
then use file/open to locate and open the desired doc. what do i need to do
to straighten this out? i can edit the registry with straight forward
instructions if need be. thanks again Chris

thanks Greg. there are a couple of KB articles that i am looking at for this
issue.
