Error 0x800ccc0e?

H

HotRod

I've googled for the Outlook Error 0x800ccc0e and have followed all of the
examples that I can find but it still doesn't seem to have solved my
problem.

1) I am not able to check my email and get the error above.
2) I've tried to TELNET to my mail server Port 110, DOESN'T WORK
3) I've tried to run the command "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" ISN'T
RECOGNIZED

NOW WHAT?

If you can't Telnet to port 110 on the server, sounds like there's a server
side issue. Can you at least PING the server?

H

HotRod

The server works just fine for every other PC on the same network. I also
failed to mention that there isn't a problem with internet access.

V

Vince Averello [MVP-Outlook]

Very interesting....

Is there any software that's unique to that machine or a firewall/virus
scanner/etc that's configured differently?

H

HotRod

Nothing unique at all. All of the machines have very limited software on
them. I've even gone through the process of shutting off all of the
firewalls and virus scanners etc. NO LUCK

V

Vince Averello [MVP-Outlook]

The fact that telnetting to port 110 doesn't work points the blame at
something other than Outlook. Is there any sort of firewall on your network
that could be getting in the way?

H

HotRod

All six computers on that network are setup the same, with wireless access
to a router and then through a VPN router. All of the other PC's work fine
and I have not added an IP or MAC filters to permit otherwise. I tried to
use outlook / internet in Safe Mode with Networking but it wouldn't allow me
access to the internet. Any other ideas?

V

Vince Averello [MVP-Outlook]

Like I said... odd. If you do a Trace Route (TraceRT.EXE) to the POP server
does it show the same thing on all workstations? Sorry for all the runaround
but this is an odd one

H

HotRod

I'll give the tracert a look when I get over to that office. Any chance you
can tell me what the name is of the file used to do

IP Lookups? I use to remember a file in windows that you could associate a
www.website.com to IP address

V

Vince Averello [MVP-Outlook]

Do you mean HOSTS? Normally you should be depending on DNS to do name
resolution but in a pinch you can use the HOSTS file in the
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ETC directory

H

HotRod

YES it was HOSTS that I was thinking of, please see my notes and results
below of the TraceRT, Telnet and Ping tests

BELOW IS MY EMAIL TO TECH SUPPORT

I've a very wierd problem. We currently have several computers sharing a DSL
connection, all of them have access to the internet and four of the five can
access their email. I have already checked all of the obvious problems so
please don't start there. PLEASE have a look at my ping and tracert TEST. I
am able to do a TRACERT test but am not able to ping the server.

We use execulink as our DSL provider but Xcelco has the rest of our DSL
connections and email addresses. THis is because the rest of the company has
Xcelco DSL connections but for some reason with this building we had to go
with execulink. Therefore our typical setup is.

POP3 = mail.xcelco.on.ca
SMTP = execulink.com

The one computer having the problem can send emails but can not recieve
them.

That would be hosts, located in one of the system directories on your
Windows PC. Which directory depends on the Windows version.

Interestingly, I _can_ telnet to both ports on that machine.

OK after playing around for an hour I was playing with the HOSTS file and I
removed a few entries I don't think they should have made a different but it
did.

The one pointed to
mail.xcelco.on.ca

and the other to

smtp.xcelco.on.ca

Anyways it seems to be working now, I guess I'll give it a few days and
we'll see.

Should be 207.61.64.102
and the other to

smtp.xcelco.on.ca

Same machine. This is an alias for the other.

What part of it might require a little better explanation. I know that I
sometimes don't fully flesh out an explanation.
