Try changing the settings of the account

Outlook Express 5 and above
My Incoming mail server = POP
POP: mail.bigpond.co
SMTP: mail.bigpond.co

Outlook 200
My Incoming mail server = POP
POP: pop-server.bigpond.net.a
SMTP: mail-hub.bigpond.net.a

Outlook 2002/
Select POP
POP: pop-server.bigpond.net.a
SMTP: mail-hub.bigpond.net.a
Ensure the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) option is NOT selected
