Hi

When I try to open an existing .pst file using Outlook 2002, ( 10.4219.4219) SP-2 I get the following error code: 0x80040600 and the message: errors have been detected in the file, quit all mail enabled applications and use the inbox repair tool. I have tried adding the .pst file, importing it, opening it etc and get the same error everytime. I copied this file from an Dell laptop running windows 2000 to a dell laptop running windows 2000. I was using Oulook 2000 and now use Outlook 2002 ( Office 2000 versus Office XP ). Any ideas

Like it stated; run the inbox repair tool. This is scanpst.exe which you can
find by default in the following folder;
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\<localid>

Clear the Deleted Items folder and run scanpst.exe again.

You're pst-file

Make sure you include hidden and system files and folders when searching for
pst-file.

By default it is located in
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

You can also locate the file by using
Rightclick the root folder (probably Outlook Today)-> Properties-> button
Advanced-> field Filename

I'm getting the same error: 0x80040600 on Outlook 2007

You can try and repair this error by recovering yourcorrupted PST file via Microsoft’s scanpst tool, however, when I tried this freetool I was disappointed to find out that it isn’t that efficient in repairing error 0x80040600 and theproblem is that it only repairs the pst file headers and not the data itself asI’ve expected…
