Erroneous 'spreadsheet already open' message

Hello,

I am working with an unshared 2003 workbook with Excel 2007. It has been
going well most of the day. Now, it has apparently decided that something
else has it open. Of course no application is using it.

Frustrating and confusing to have this happen.

Why would it think it is already open when it is not in use by any
application?

Oops, my bad....

A mail merge document had links to the spreadsheet.

This does highlight a need to report to the user exactly which program has a
file open.
