Erratic mouse

I have just acquired a logitech cordless mouse (and keyboard), the keyboard
works fine but the mouse is inclined to go haywire, jumping all over the
place. Is there a way to fix it? I've tried cheese already. Thanks.

Is it an optical mouse? Make sure the surface it on is a good surface for
the optical mouse. Also make sure the area is clean. You might want to try
all different types of surfaces for the mouse.
