Erratic Mouse Behavior - Sound Problems

Hi All,

I recently reformatted my hard drive and installed XP Pro. I have noticed
lately that my wired, USB, optical mouse has been moving erratically. I can
try to drag it across the desktop and it seems to lag a bit. If I'm
listening to any MP3's or any other music, it will stutter. It seems like
my whole system "stutters" due to my mouse movement. Has anyone ever had
this type of problem before. My computer is home-built. It has:

Athlon XP 2500 CPU (overclocked to 3200)
1 gig RAM
NVIDIA 5600 video card with 256 megs of RAM
MSI KT6 Delta Series MB

I have even tried slowing it back down to 2500 and I still get the same
error.

We may need a few more details, like what drivers you've
installed for mouse or motherboard, etc.

If you didn't install the Via 4in1 driver, do so first.

If you're using the motherboard's integral sound, you might
try raising the PCI latency in the bios, perhaps around 80,
updating the bios, a newer sound driver, adding a sound
card, using the mouse with PS2 adapter, disabling sound
spatialization effects, dropping sound hardware acceleration
setting in Multimedia properties, and/or installing WInXP to
use APM power management instead of ACPI (Google search for
details). ONE of those at a time, until desired solution is
found.

Thanks. I have an optical mouse and it shows up as a HID-Compliant mouse.
I also installed Microsoft's Intellimouse software after I began having
problems but it didn't seem to help. The motherboard has software called
"Netropa Keyboard Driver", which allows some special function buttons to
work.
