Erratic Microsoft Wireless Desktop

D

Dave Chiang

I've owned a Microsoft Wireless Desktop for a while now, and although
it works, it always adds random keystrokes at seemingly random times;
I'll be typing a sentence and suddenly "ioioa" or something will
appear. It also has a tendencay to hang: if I type an "a", a few
seconds later, the keyboard will begin typing "a"s continuously as
if I were holding down the "a" key on the keyboard, and will continue
to do so until I type some other key.

Most annoying is the fact that at random moments, the keyboard seems
to send out the "Log Off" command, closing all my active programs and
causing a tremendous interruption of whatever work I happen to be
doing at the moment.

Does anyone know why this is happenning, and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Since there are many things that can cause this behavior, I suggest you go
the MS KB and under Hardware enter "wireless desktop". You will find a
number of articles that relate to the problems you are experiencing. Cause
can be weak batteries, not synchronized correctly, is it USB or PS2,
position of receiver, faulty hardware or simply needing the latest drivers
(there are some updates available).

Search for "wireless desktop" > Go > enjoy the reading....

Replace the batteries (if replaceable).

Hit the sync button on the receiver and then on the mouse to sync them
up.

Make sure any other users of cordless mice or keyboards are at least 15
feet away.

If it has a recharge cradle, make sure to cradle it after use.
Rechargeable batteries (and cordless mice, in general) do not last
anywhere near as long for a usable charge as their makers claim.
