Erratic IntelliPoint 3.2 mouse behavior on Win2K

I would really appreciate some insights/procedural steps
to resolve the erratic mouse behavior I'm experiencing.
I upgraded a SONY PCG-F290 Laptop (from Win98->Win2K), old
mouse works fine, until I installed IntelliPoint 3.2
software and mouse. After reboot, I can't believe the
erratic mouse behavior! The cursor is all over the screen,
and uncontrollable. Any ideas for problem resolution?
Please help!
