Equation editor not working

A user had wordXP and tried to use a file that had used the equation editor
symbols. When looking at the file, the symbols are like wingdings, not math
symbols. When he double-clicks on it to edit the symbols, it looks fine
(symbols appear correctly). On my computer, I see the math symbols fine.

Reinstalled Word 2003, but still the issue appears.

Any suggestions?

It sounds as if the needed fonts are not installed on the user's computer.
Or possibly the wrong font is selected for a given style.

The strange thing is that it works fine when I double click that equation
object.
