epson stylus 880 carraige over-run problem

I've been having problems in the last few days with the printhead on my
epson 880 over-running and colliding with the left hand side of the printer
carraige. It does this maybe one in each six prints but also every single
time i try to force a re-ink (ie holding down the paper feed button).

I've opened the printer up and the drive belt seems whole but I can't see
what the printhead uses to gauge it's position on the carraige. I though it
would use the type of slooted wheel arrangement you find in mice but no
sign of this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try wiping down the silver guide bar with a silicone based lubricant. Run
the printer a few times and do it again. Should solve the problem.
