Epson stylus 15020 driver and paper feed

paper feed problem on this printer? Often when I send a print to A4
(I don't really use any other size), the paper feeds all the way
through and stops in the output tray with a no paper message. If I
keep trying is often works later but it is a pain. Sometimes it works
straight away.

I an wondering it is is something to do with the driver, as even after
a lot of looking I have not found an up to date one for Win XP pro. I
use a desk and laptop PC on it with the same problem. Needless to say
I cannot see anything physically wrong.

Any ideas please, it has hardly been used really and is in very good
nick? When it works the print is super.

Thanks George.

That should of course be Stylus 1520

I assume this printer is an Epson 1520, not 15020.

Typically, this problem is a result of the paper transport slipping
somewhat and the paper arriving too late at the paper sensor in the
middle of the printer. To correct it you need to get some student
watercolor paper and spray it with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol (70-99%)
in the center area one one side just enough to dampen the paper without
making it so damp the paper will not hold together.

Run that paper through the printer using the paper load and Eject
buttons, several times, turning the paper over in each direction. If
the paper becomes too dirty, make another one the same way.

Thanks for the comments Art, I tried running a damp paper impregnated
with Iso Propyl through the track, but it did not seem to pick up any
dirt at all and it did not change the feeding problem. I tried
feeding some A3 paper through it and it seemed much better. It may be
that the rollers pulling the A4 paper are hardened rather than dirty,
as I had this printer in the Gulf for a couple of years and it was
exposed to high temperatures - and in a container coming back form the
Middle East.

I think I will have to take it apart, but I am not that sure of how it
dismantles. I suppose the time honoured method of taking screws out
will have to be tried! Is there a workshop manual available anywhere,
do you know? The hand book is not much good at this sort of thing.
Do you think writing to Epson will do any good?

Regards George.

Epson produces a service manual for all their printers, and although
they aren't perfect they do provide quite a bit of detail.

Almost all of them are made into PDF files.

There are available on line from a number of sources, some charge, some
don't (most charge something). Some vendors on ebay sell disks filled
with many manuals, some sell downloadable copies, usually they go for
about $10.
