epson R340

L

I came across this site and thought I would register in hopes of
finding a solution to my problem(s). I previously owned the epsonR300
injet printer and had to take it back to best buy a few times (i
bought a warranty), each time they replaced the printer with a new
R300. Now I have an R340, bought brand new in May, since then I have
had to take this back to best buy. This was replaced with a new one
again. Now, I am ready to take it back and have it replaced again.
The problem is the print quality diminishes with time. Its as though
there isn't any black ink, even though I insert a new cartridge. This
happens with the black ink and the yellow ink. The print is terrible.
So, I go to the maintenance screen and check and clean the nozzles,
all that does is use up more ink. Does anybody have any suggestions!
I am right in the middle of a project(text and photo) , please help!

So as a glutton for punishment you went and bought the same brand in May?

What do you have the driver set to, you have a number of choices from text,
to top quality photo, have a look to see what you have set it to and change
the setting, I assume because the printer is new that the inks are OEM and
not some cheapie you have purchased. What happens when you print a photo on
its own, you have not said what a nozzle print off tells you, if the print
off is OK with no breaks in the black and yellow there is a very good chance
it's down to settings, it's somewhat unlikely that you would get two
printers with the same fault. Although it could happen I suppose.

Hopefully you are using Epson ink. If not that is the problem. If so
then return the unit and buy a Canon IP4300 unless you must print on
CD/DVDs. The Canon will print slightly better photos much faster. And
be sure to use Canon ink or you will again have problems.

The problems you are having are totally uncommon for the model Epson you
have and have had. I have friends who have them and only have had
problems with the CD tray.

Since these printers have a relatively good reputation, unless you have
had a particularly bad run of luck, it is probably time to look into
this further.

Bad ink can make any printer malfunction, so the first question is, are
you using Epson's own ink cartridges, or are you using 3rd party, and if
3rd party, are you buying new cartridges or having your old ones
refilled? I am not implying here that all 3rd party inks are bad, in
fact, most are probably fine, but, they need to be compatible types
(made for the printer model you are using) and they need to be good quality.

Let's assume you are using Epson inks for the minute. Tell me a bit
about your work area, and the climate the printer is subjected to. Is it
particularly dusty or do you have a lot of pets that shed in the area
of the printer (a cat that likes to sleep on top of it, for instance?)
Is it very dry in your area?

Lastly, how often do you use the printer, do you turn it one and off
often, and do you turn the printer off by way of a power bar rather than
using the on/off switch on the printer itself? Do you use it
commercially, where you are sending a lot of prints through it regularly?

The problems you are encountering a quite rare, especially for a dye
colorant ink printer in the Epson line. Perhaps you can answer the
questions I posed so we can try to narrow down this odd behaviour of the
printer.

I suggest you take note of Art's information - He is a god when it comes to
ink jet print quality and head cleaning.

I think he invented ink jets!!

I wish! I'd be a lot wealthier... The original thermal bubblejet,
developed by Canon, was an accidental 'discovery'.
