Epson R200 CD printing

I've been happy with the Espon R200's CD printing, when I can get the
little tray to go in properly that is. It typically takes me four or
five trys to line the tray up with the arrows and get it to go in. The
problem seems to be the clear plastic lip on the end that has to be
caught by the feeder mechanism. Is that lip even necessary and could I
reasonably tear it off? Any advice on reliable feeds other than trial
and error? Does Epson make a newer more reliable replacement part? And
lastly, what other similar CD printers are there out there aside from
the dedicated stand-alone units? Thanks.

The cd tray feed problem is well documented for the R200, so Epson has
brought out a new tray design. In the UK, there are plenty available on
ebay.

As mentioned well documented. One solution was to put some tape, folded
over the clear strip.

I used to keep finger pressure on the tray so it would feed.

This sounds like the same problem that the R300 has.

The easiest way around this is, as suggested above, keep some (gentle)
finger pressure on the tray (front and right sides) until it feeds.

I never had the problem for the first few months in the life of the
printer, then it got so that it failed about 4 times in 5.

Someone else suggested 'gentle finger pressure' -- and that work's just
fine. (Haven't had a feed failure since).
