epson not so perfection will not install

I have an epson perfection 2580 scanner and I cannot install it! I have
installed the software and then connected the scanner .The found new
hardware wizard starts up but at some point asks for Windows Sp2 .I
insert the cd but that seems to make no difference and eventually says
there was an error installing the hardware and it may not work! Only
too true! I have windows XP .

Sue, try the latest driver from Epson. Remove any old Epson Software
from Add/Remove in Control Panel first.

Epson scanners and printers are very picky about how they get installed.
Remove all the Epson software that was installed and also remove the scanner
itself from Device Manager. Make sure the scanner is not connected to the
computer. Shut down the computer and power off, don't just restart. Power
up your computer and insert the Epson Software CD and install the software.
Leaving the CD in the drive, connect the scanner to the power supply and
using the USB cable supplied by Epson, connect the scanner to the computer.
Power up the scanner. When the scanner shows the green light indicator,
remove the Epson Software CD and restart your computer.
