Epson FX 1180+ problem

I've created a custom form using Print Server Properties (Win2k). The form is 4" high and 11.25" across. It's designed for a report created in Oracle Reports 6i. I am printing the new form on an Epson FX1180+ Esc\P, connected locally. The printer is set up with preprinted forms, tractor-fed. The preprinted forms are 4" high and 11.25" acrosss. The page length setting for the tractor is 4".

From Reports runtime, I am able to select the printer and my new Win2k form in Print Set-up, using Advanced Properties. When I go to Print, I find that the proper printer and form have been designated. I do get output, but it has the following fault: instead of printing on each preprinted form in succession, it skips a form before printing the next. As a result, half of the preprinted forms are left blank. In other words, the forms are being printed every 8 inches, when they should be every 4 inches.

My only hypothesis was that the lay-out of the Oracle report exceeded the margins allowed by the printer, but it made no difference when I reduced the form slightly in the Reports designer. That leaves me wondering where to go next. The folks at Epson support have made it clear that printing in the Windows environment is almost entirely controlled by the computer. That leaves me wondering why the Windows print management tools aren't using the new Win2k form I created in the normal way? I realize there may be something about the printer or about the report itself that needs to be adjusted, but the first question is whether I need to change something in the Windows print settings.

Any suggestions?

Is the printer giving you a second formfeed? Those dot matrix printers
can be set to Auto FF at the page length and you could be getting two
FF's one from the report and one from the printer itself.

The problem turned out to be in the Oracle report settings themselves: two horizontal panels per page instead of one and form height of 7 " instead of 4". Seek and yee shall find. So this thread is done.
